Eid & New Years Party

Al-Asr arrange an annual Eid and New Years Party to promote unity in the community. The event has been held annually since 2001.

Al-Asr is an international educational institute geared towards producing the leaders of tomorrow through providing educational and cultural awareness in the light of the teachings of the Ahl al-Bayt to the young people of today. Our aim is a peaceful and constructive vision for the future.

The Al-Asr establishment is new to the century old Muslim community of Woking. Woking accommodates the oldest mosque in the UK, built over 100 years ago. However, the requirements of the Shia community were not being fulfilled. In the past the Shias from Woking have had to travel to London for educational and religious activities.

Madrasa Imam Al-Asr was established in 1995 in Woking to comply with the needs of the community. With Gods blessings, in January 2000, the Shia community purchased a building in the Maybury area dedicated to educational and cultural awareness. The building accommodates a library, two lecture rooms and prayer hall providing a much needed focal point for the community.

Through this event we are hoping to bring together local people and local government with Al-Asr members, students, helpers and supporters. This will be a fantastic opportunity to forge new acquaintances and indeed find out about the Al-Asr activities and objectives.

The social event include talks from distinguished guests and Al-Asr management, slide shows and recitation by our students. We intend to discuss issues related to education, Muslim women, cultural awareness and Muslim youth in the west. Needless to say there is a sumptuous meal to look forward to.
